Here’s some real talk you need to hear today… let’s talk about how to stop blending in with your competitors.
If your brand feels… kind of fine
If your website is nice… but not memorable
If your logo looks like it could belong to five other businesses in your niche…
You’re playing it safe. And safe isn’t selling.
Average is the enemy of growth. And in the world of creative, service-based businesses, being average means getting overlooked.
The good news? You don’t need to shout louder or be someone you’re not. You just need to be more of you (strategically).
Here’s how to break free from the average and create a brand and website that actually stand out:

Your brand when it finally stops using the same Canva template as everyone else. Be the red flower in a field of beige websites
1. Ditch the Template Personality
If your brand colors, fonts, and Canva-made logo were all picked because they “look cute”… it’s time to go deeper.
Your brand should do more than look nice. It should tell your story, attract your dream clients, and make people feel something the moment they land on your page.
Try this:
- Pick one word that describes the vibe you want people to feel (ex: bold, dreamy, high-end)
- Use that word to guide your color choices, fonts, imagery, and messaging
Strategic design starts with emotion, not just aesthetics. Everyone is blending in by just focusing on aesthetics.
2. Say Something Different
A lot of websites say the same things:
“I help people feel confident”
“I’m passionate about what I do”
“I’m here to capture your special moments”
Cool. But how is that different from the other 10 people your client is also considering?
Instead of blending in with generic messaging, try this:
- Tell your “why” in a way that connects emotionally
- Highlight your process and what makes it unique
- Speak like a human, not a brochure
Real connection is better than cookie-cutter copy. Remember! Let’s STAND OUT!
3. Design for Experience, Not Just Looks
Pretty websites are everywhere. But strategic websites that guide someone to book you, buy from you, or inquire? That’s next level.
Ask yourself:
- Is my homepage leading visitors where I want them to go?
- Do I have clear calls-to-action?
- Is it obvious who I serve and what I offer within the first few seconds?
Your website should do the work, not just sit there and look good. Again everyone is blending in by ONLY making it look good…not making it WORK (like SEO).
4. Be Brave with Your Brand, Stop Bending In
If you’re always checking what your competitors are doing before you post or design something, it’s a sign you’re blending in.
Instead, ask yourself:
- What do I want to be known for?
- What would I create if I wasn’t afraid of what others thought?
- What does my ideal client really need to hear from me today?
Standing out doesn’t mean being loud or edgy. It means being brave enough to be original.
5. Don’t DIY Forever, You”ll Blend In
Look, I’m all for getting scrappy when you’re just starting out. But if you’re serious about growth, your visuals and messaging need to match your value.
That means:
- Custom brand design that reflects your personality and goals
- A website built with strategy and SEO in mind
- Copy that speaks directly to the people you want to work with
When you invest in your brand, other people do too.
